Our Company

Ambulance International Scarborough (AIS) is a private ambulance service based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Our vision is to be innovative, responsive, excellent and patient focused, whilst providing the best outcomes for our patients in pre-hospital settings.

Our mission is to improve pre-hospital medical care in North Yorkshire region and across larger areas of UK in the future.

We are offering emergency and non-emergency ambulance services in North-East of England and we are international by offering repatriation for people from all over Europe.

We are compliant with the latest guidelines published by Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee (JRCALC) and we are fulfilling the legal and regulatory requirements for emergency medical services in UK.

We are compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), applicable in the UK since 25 May 2018. This compliance includes keeping records of data processing activities.

Repatriation Services

We offer a reliable repatriation service for holiday-makers who suffered an accident or serious illness whilst abroad and need medical transport to the UK.
We provide repatriation services on behalf of hospitals, insurance companies, travel agencies or directly to persons interested in this service.

We provide medical repatriation from almost anywhere within Europe. From locations outside Europe, we provide medical escorts for repatriation of patients with commercial airlines.

We have Road Ambulances, that are fully equipped to emergency standards. Our repatriation team has a vast experience in dealing with hospitals in Europe and includes professionals who have worked for the NHS in frontline A&E roles.

Our company will liaise with hospital doctors where the patient is located and our team will conduct an own medical assessment to ensure that the patient is safe to travel. Our ambulance team will keep the patient safe and comfortable throughout the journey and inform the family and friends as well.

At the destination hospital, our team will complete the paperwork needed and handover the patient to the next team.

Medical Support for Events

We provide a tailored medical cover to all types of events: cycling, running, motocross, equestrian or festivals. We provide medical cover for small or large scale events in Scarborough and across UK. We can assist you in all stages of planning from risk assessment to deployment.

We can provide basic or extensive medical services at your event. We have advanced life support ambulances, which qualifies us as provider to cover events in response to injuries and incidents. We have well maintained vehicles and equipped to fully current NHS specifications.

Our ambulance crews include certified HCPC paramedics, ambulance technicians and emergency care assistants with NHS ‘999” experience. We focus on the smooth running of your event and our company will provide a high quality and safe pre-hospital event medical cover.

High-Dependency and Emergency Transport

An emergency transport is needed when a local hospital or medical facility is unable to provide appropriate medical treatment for a patient. We provide an enhanced clinical care during inter-hospital transfers.

We provide ambulance services for patients to and from any UK Airport to a destination of choice such as hospitals or patients’ homes. We provide Airport transfer services and nationwide coverage. A family member or friend is welcome to travel with the patient.

We are able to transfer Accident and Emergency (A&E) patients as well as High Dependency Unit (HDU) patients.

We have fully-equipped ambulances: portable mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitors and automated defibrillators, non-invasive blood pressure devices, oxygen saturation (SaO2) and end tidal carbon dioxide detector, syringe pumps, piped oxygen and entonox, DC/AC power inverters to eliminate the risk of battery failure, portable wall mounted suction device. Our ambulances have ALS equipped emergency bag including necessary drugs and intubation equipment.

We provide front-line work using our HDU/A&E vehicles and qualified personnel.

Non-Emergency Transport

We provide non-emergency patient transport focused on individual’s needs. We offer private patients transfer to enable access to secondary care such as attendance to hospital or clinic appointments.

Our ambulances are equipped with wheelchairs and stretchers and we offer a tailored transport service for non-emergencies.

Our aim is to extend the availability of non-emergency patient transfer in our area and to improve patient experience by accessing this type service.

Training Courses

We are providing classroom based courses and online courses.
All our trainers are paramedics and qualified teachers with recognised teaching qualifications. Our trainers are Members of the Society for Education& Training (SET).

We are using only the highest quality equipment in providing courses.

Our classroom courses are First Aid courses, which are approved by Ofqual and Ofsted and are delivered to Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) standard.

Our Staff

All our ambulance staff are registered with either Health Practice Associates (HPA) or Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have an enhanced DBS clearance.

Our staff have completed statutory courses (related to legal and regulatory requirements) and mandatory courses (required by a specific job role).

AIS creates a learning environment, ensuring continuing professional development for all our staff.

Dr. Luminita Iuliana De Jong

Dr Iuliana Apostol De Jong

General Director of AIS

Iuliana is a GMC fully registered medical practitioner with specialist registration in Geriatric Medicine, since Mar 2012. She is currently working as a Consultant in Care of the Elderly, Scarborough Hospital. She is a Geriatric Consultant since 2001, having 18 years of experience in acute geriatric care. She has competence in Palliative Medicine since 2014. In Sep 2014 she obtained her PhD in immunosenescence field.

She has an active membership with professional societies: British Geriatric Society (since 2013), Royal Colleagues of Physician London (since 2013), European Respiratory Society (since 2011), British Medical Association (since 2013) and International Society of Infectious Disease (since 2011).

She has a large experience in emergency medicine due to her on-call duties and Frailty sessions inside the Emergency Department.

Mrs. Fiona Jones

Clinical Lead of AIS

Fiona is a HCPC Registered Paramedic and currently works in frontline emergency care, having done so for the last 17 years.

Throughout her career, Fiona has continued her learning, is a qualified trainer and now works as an “Enhanced Care Paramedic” and Paramedic Mentor regularly working with and supporting students.

She is also Co-Director of Salus NE Ltd, a first aid training and event cover company based in County Durham.
